Years ago Russell Stauffer sold glads, dahlias, and calla lilies from a cart on Cleveland Road. He was known for his beautiful flowers and deep voice. Stauffer's great-niece remembered him as a farmer who ran a roadside fruit market and sang in the church choir. He made lasting memories with his flowers, touching many lives. The Spiegel Catalog Store at 205 W. Liberty St. transformed over the years into various establishments, including Wooster Book Co. A memorable moment in College of Wooster's sports history was their 1924 football game against Ohio State University. Wayne County was once a hub for horse auctions, boasting top Standardbred operations. In 1877, old timbers from the second Wayne County Courthouse were made into walking canes. |
